Seafood Festival (Olhão: 10. - 15.08.2023) This year, for the 35th time, the famous Shellfish Festival, which is one of the Algarve´s most popular summer gastronomic events, will be held in Olhão. After a day on one of the region´s many beautiful beaches, hundreds of tourists and residents head for the festival where they can enjoy delicious shellfish and bivalves caught in the Ria Formosa, as well as concerts from the best artists across the nation. This festival is important not only for the people of Olhão, who make their living from fishing, but also for all types of local shops, thanks to the large influx of visitors. Sardine Festival ?(Portimão: 01. - 08.08.2023) The Sardine Festival takes place in August in the riverside area of Portimão. Besides stands selling tasty grilled sardines with Algarvian salad, you can also find several and exhibitors sell local products. You can also attend a variety of concerts by Portuguese artists. ? This festival is attended by many tourists and residents, it is considered one of the largest gastronomic events in Portimão. Fatacil - Crafts, Tourism, Agriculture, Trade and Industry Fair in Lagoa (Lagoa: 16. - 25.08.2023) This fair had its first edition in 1980 and since then has grown and become one of the most important festivals of the summer. Every year more than 700 exhibitors come together to bring their products to those attending, some craftsmen do live demonstrations live of the best traditional crafts and those in the agricultural area offer samples of some of their delicious produce. For children, the livestock area is pure joy because they can observe various animals up close, including native breeds of sheep and goats, as well as the elegant horses that take part in the equestrian show. At Fatacil, there is a varied gastronomic display and you can also enjoy concerts by well-known Portuguese and international artists. Silves Medieval Fair ?(Silves: 10. - 20.08.2023) If you enjoy historical recreations, then you must visit Silves, former capital of the Kingdom of Algarve, during the days of the medieval fair. ? You can watch the exciting tournaments of knights and archers and witness live history lessons. In the streets of the town, you will find characters from the times of the Arab occupation such as snake charmers, jugglers and belly dancers. You will also find various stands with traditional products that make excellent, original gifts. You can dress up in the costumes of the time by going to the "Royal Wardrobe" and even exchange euros for Xilb, the official currency of the fair and only valid in that space, and thus pay for the appetising delicacies available daily.
